MP launches competition to design poster celebrating the NHS

Watford’s MP is calling on the town’s children to create posters to show their support for the NHS.

Dean Russell has teamed up with the Watford Observer to celebrate NHS doctors, nurses and other workers saving lives and caring for the sick across the country. Dean is an artist in his spare time and has had drawings signed by four Prime Ministers auctioned for good causes. He is also a children’s author and has published four books: Mouse and the Moon Made of Cheese, So Frog, So Gorilla and Is Daddy Home Yet!

The winner and their art will be featured on a 'Support the NHS' poster printed in the Observer. Mr Russell is also awarding prizes including dinner at parliament for the winner and their family, chocolate treats and art equipment – including one of his brushes. All readers need to do is submit an image of their child holding their art. Posters can be drawings or paintings in any medium. There will also be a category for disabled entrants.

Dean said: “I wanted to launch this competition so that every brave NHS worker can see the poster in as many windows as possible on their way to and from work. “It’s a very small gesture but hopefully it will remind those on the front line how appreciated they are at this time. “It also gives kids that aren’t able to go to school an opportunity to use their creative talents to design a poster to say a big thank you.”

Entries should be sent to The deadline is 5.30pm on May 8.
