Member of the Health & Social Care Select Committee
Dean has been a member of the Health and Social Care Committee since the 2nd March 2020. The committee is responsible for scrutinising the work of the Department of Health and Social Care and its associated public bodies. The committee examines government policies, spending and administration on behalf of the electorate and the House of Commons.
During the COVID pandemic, Dean has interviewed key figures from Government and advisors including Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Scientific Officer Sir Patrick Vallance, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP and NHS Chief Executive Sir Simon Stevens.
Over the course of the COVID pandemic, Dean has raised questions on behalf of constituents and the Country. This has included raising issues related to COVID covering a range of topics such as school closures, the role of face coverings, NHS and Social Care staff mental health support, the safety of maternity services in England, access to care homes and support for people with learning disabilities or autistic people.
